Welcome to House of Quilts, established January 2001. Originally a Quiltmaster business making bedspreads for curtain shops, hotels and the public. By mid 2001 we had a client present us with this piece of pieced fabrics and asked if we could quilt it. My response is yes of course we can, how would you like it finished. Clients response was oh just stitch in the ditch, I thought how simple is that, not a problem. So estimating around 1.5 hrs work quoted $150 which the client was very impressed with, and advised that I would ring when ready to collect. Needless to say I was a little bit out by about 5 hours and with a machine that only operated with go and stop I had to turn the machine over by hand. This 1.5hr job ended up taking me 1.5 days. So started my introduction to patchwork quilting.

As time went by we found that this new arm of our business becoming increasingly popular and had to abandon the bedspread component. We did start on a part time basis but after 3 years had to make a very important decision and chose to operate full time. This only came about due to the continued support of return clientele and their referrals.

We later decided to purchase a new machine and selected a Gamill Classic Plus. With this purchase came re – education of quilting and the introduction of pantographs all hand guided. Now 9 years down the road have invested in a computerized system allowing us to provide a consistent quilting stitch, larger selection of designs and also making the operation more user friendly.

With an appreciation that the topper although taking from days to weeks even years to complete their top, look at having the quilting process completed in days. At this time a day turn around is not achievable, but I do pride myself in having a month turn around. Have only had a couple of occasions where unable to achieve this. My ultimate goal is to purchase a second machine and be able to offer a two or next day turnaround.

This business operates in a smoke and pet free environment, where customer satisfaction is our highest priority. I try to achieve this from introduction to the delivery of the finished project. Our services offer pantograph and customized quilting, supply of wadding, backing and a large range of thread choices. Also offer the application of binding and the making, applying and finishing of the binding.

In 2009 we volunteered our knowledge and skills in patchwork for an orphanage in Bali. Being so taken with the receptiveness, eagerness and skillfulness we continue to return and assist these wonderful talented students. Our aim is to get them producing professional saleable products, enabling the orphanage to sell thus adding to the funds required for food, education and medical requirements. We are also in talks with a local resort hotel, hoping to give the students practical skills in the hospitality industry and a greater advantage in applying for positions in this industry once they complete their education. Also discussing the implementation of a craft geta-way.
